Communities of Practice: Supporting Student Safety: Suicide Intervention Toolkit and Adi’s Act Overv

When:  Feb 23, 2026 from 03:30 PM to 05:00 PM (PT)

School nurses play a critical role in identifying, supporting, and responding to students who may be at risk of suicide. This presentation introduces the Oregon Toolkit for Suicide Intervention in Schools, a practical, Oregon-specific resource developed in collaboration with educators, school counselors, and statewide partners to strengthen school-based intervention practices. Participants will explore key tools, templates, and guidance designed to support effective communication, coordinated response, and thoughtful intervention when a student is identified as at risk. There will also be opportunities for attendees to provide feedback on the toolkit from the lens of school nurses.

In addition to highlighting the toolkit, this session will provide a brief overview of Adi’s Act, Oregon’s 2019 legislation regarding youth suicide prevention in K-12 schools, including its requirements and implications for school systems.

This session will offer opportunities for engagement, reflection, and practical application, helping school nurses strengthen confidence and consistency in responding to student needs while contributing to safe, supportive school environments across Oregon.
