Update on Spring Conference Refunds, and COVID-19 Resources

Dear nurse colleagues,

We hope this message finds you and your family well. As mentioned in our previous communication, OSNA and our state partners are committed to bringing you timely and relevant professional content through our yearly conferences and digital outlets like our website. In light of having to cancel our in-person conference scheduled for April 16th and 17th to comply with Governor Brown's recommendation for social distancing in response to COVID-19, we had hoped to be able to provide you with some of the content planned for spring conference through webinar or other digital means. At this time, however, the spring conference content is being put on hold as we and our partners focus on COVID-19 response.

Conference payments made by credit card will receive a full refund directly to the credit card used during registration. If your district paid by check, Angela Kulak will email you to make arrangements for repayment. If you paid by personal check, you will receive your refund in the mail. Please contact Angela with any questions on refunds: akulak.osna@gmail.com.

Existing water bottle orders that were placed online during the conference registration process through Eply will be canceled, and the money refunded as outlined above. Anyone who would still like to order said water bottles may do so directly through the vendor (info below), but we have been notified that you will be charged shipping unless you choose to pick the bottles up in Silverton. To order, please email:  Erica@silverfallsengraving.com.

To help keep you all up to date with the current COVID-19 response both globally and regionally, our state school nurse consultant, Corinna Brower, has compiled some useful resource links for you to utilize while you are at home:

  • COVID-19 updates from the CDC, OHA, and ODE.
  • NASN COVID-19 resource for school nurses, including “Ideas for School Nurses During the Pandemic” and this article on how to deploy school health staff.
  • Oregon’s state-wide executive orders, including the school closure wording in Executive Order 20-08. To paraphrase: 4c) some school district sites are now providing emergency childcare; 4e) districts shall continue to pay regular employees, and some school staff (including school RNs) are being asked/required to work on site; 10) some school staff may opt out of on-site work per personal health risk.
  • Childcare resources for schools, including this district childcare toolkit developed by ODE’s Early Learning Division. Updates to recommendations for childcare sites are housed on ELD pages.
  • Local recommendations. Your district administrators are likely working closely with Local Public Health Authorities (LPHAs) during this time.

Questions or concerns about your specific situation may be best addressed by local decision-makers, including your employer and/or your union.

Please be patient as we continue to update the OSNA website with these and other resources for school nurses.
