Important dates for Spring Conference

OSNA tries to make our resources available to all school nurses (members or not) by re-posting many discussion list items in this blog on the main page of our website. In that spirit, I will share a recent post about important dates for Spring Conference 4/21-4/22/2022. Before I do, however, I want to share that this conference is a perfect opportunity to encourage your districts/ESD's to support your membership to OSNA/NASN.

Conference tuition for a member ($225) includes a textbook worth $100. For a non-member, the tuition cost ($365) does not include the textbook (we have a grant which will purchase the text for members of OSNA). As we have done for many years, we have made the tuition for attendance by a non-member the same as the cost of purchasing a membership AND registering as a member. Nevertheless, some districts have a policy which does not allow the purchase memberships. However, many districts/ESD's will purchase reference materials and professional journals. As you communicate with your employer about membership and conference, you can now tell them that for the price of membership and tuition, you will have access to the 2 peer reviewed journals on school nursing (comes with a membership) AND the foundational textbook, School Nursing A Comprehensive Text. Good luck! Now on to the important reminders...

With so much going on as we battle the latest COVID-19 surge, I thought it would be helpful to outline some important conference dates. The conference will be help in Ashland on April 21 & 22. As with any in-person events, there are some concrete deadlines that we cannot change, so here goes...

Hotel: Book your room as soon as possible. When an organization prepares for an event, they can only secure the number of rooms they can guarantee as part of their block, otherwise they are left paying for empty rooms. As such, the reserved room block for this event is limited, BUT there are still plenty of rooms right now in the hotel (it's just that they are available to anyone... not just conference goers, so we do not know how long they will be available). For this reason, it is critical that you reserve rooms as soon as possible. This is low risk because you can hold the room with a credit card which WILL NOT BE CHARGED, and you will avoid cancellation fees if you cancel more than 72 hours prior to arrival (more information under logistics on the conference website). ALSO, the conference rates for the hotel are good for Friday (4/22) and Saturday (4/23) nights for participants and their guests who want to stay on after the event.

Conference Registration: The venue requires final meal counts 10 days before the event, so registration for the event ends 4/10/2022.

The book (Janice Selekman's School Nursing a Comprehensive Text) comes free as part of registration for OSNA members, but to guarantee that we have them on time to be at the conference, non-members purchasing the text as an add-on must do so by 4/12/2022.

Oregon Shakespeare Festival musical tickets
(for Friday evening and Saturday matinee) can only be held for OSNA (at student rates) until 3/24/2022, so they must be purchased (through our website) by that day.

Other notes:
For districts who do not usually send all nurses... We recommend that all members register, even if you are not able to travel. Share with your decision makers that the registration ($225) includes a textbook worth $100, (which can be mailed to you) and even if you cannot attend in person, you will have access to professionally filmed content (11+ hours) for 3 months on WHOVA.

If your district/ESD's registers you for tuition/textbook, you can still purchase add-ons. Go to the registration portal and select the "Add-on ONLY" ticket (it's free). Then register using an email different from the one used to register you for the conference ticket and purchase add-ons.
