The Oregon State Board of Education adopted updated Health Services Administration Rules in June of 2023. The updates are extensive and support school nursing practice by clarifying expectations and citing legal supports. A portion of this conference will address these changes, exploring their impact on policy and defining the school nurse role in implementation.
A new acuity tool based on nursing assessment has been endorsed (but not required) by ODE. Sessions will share the the history of acuity assessment in Oregon and outline the use of this tool in reporting medically complex, fragile and dependent (1:1) students. Workshop engagement will include examining the use of this tool in various scenarios. To ensure the implementation of this tool is consistent across the state ensuring that data set gathered by ODE is valid, this session will be essential for all school nurses across Oregon.
OSNA has created an extensive cardiac tool kit. At this conference, we will hear from cardiologists about the management of the most common cardiac conditions in the school setting, learn about cardiac screening for students, and explore the toolkit in interactive workshop sessions.
We look forward to seeing everyone on November 3rd, but want to note that materials for this conference will be available for 3 months on the Whova platform.
