This CoP will outline Margaret A. Jenkins’ recent article “The Anatomy of a Position Statement” (NASN School Nurse, 2025) which takes readers inside the process by which NASN develops and updates its position statements.  She lays out the essential components that these documents must contain, explains how evidence is gathered and vetted, and clarifies the role of leadership and consensus in shaping policy guidance.  For school nurses grappling with practice or policy questions, Jenkins provides a valuable roadmap for understanding where recommendations come from—and how to use them with confidence.

Communities of practice (CoP) are “groups of people who share a concern or a passion for something they do and learn how to do it better as they interact regularly” (Wenger, 1988). For more information, see the end of this document

To streamline our Communities of Practice, and with a focus on cohort mentoring, and in response to member requests, we have combined our existing monthly groups. We have made communication strategies more robust.
