Keynote Speaker

Dr. Amy Yilik. School Psychologist for the Bend-LaPine School District.

A trauma informed practice is defined as an organizational structure and treatment framework that involves understanding, recognizing, and responding to the effects of all types of trauma. An increasing number of school aged children are attending school with some sort of traumatic history; these experience can greatly impact their ability to successfully function, not only in a school setting, but in society as well. Where do we as school nurses fit in to help support these children throughout their childhood and beyond? Dr. Yilik will be speaking to school nurses on TRAUMA INFORMED PRACTICES IN ACTION and how school nurses can be the action to the approaches.

Dr. Yilik consults with teachers, administrators, and parents on issues that impact individual and global student learning. She conducts risk screens for the Safe Schools Team, administers complete psycho-educational evaluations, and runs group counseling sessions. Additionally, Dr. Yilik provides training for staff and parents on issues such as grief, loss, executive functioning, brain injury, mental health, drug and alcohol issues, parenting and motivation. She also conducts team development activities in her district.
